How can I effectively remove the brown scales from my baby's scalp?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

If your baby still has brown scales on their scalp, it is likely a condition called cradle cap. Cradle cap is a common skin condition in infants that causes flaky, crusty patches on the scalp. While it may look concerning, it is usually harmless and will eventually go away on its own.

To help remove the brown scales and alleviate any discomfort for your baby, you can try the following steps:

  • Gently massage the affected area with a mild baby shampoo or a specialized cradle cap shampoo. This will help loosen the scales and make them easier to remove.

  • After massaging, use a soft brush or comb with fine teeth to gently brush away the loosened scales. Be careful not to apply too much pressure or scratch your baby's scalp.

  • Rinse your baby's scalp thoroughly with warm water to ensure all shampoo residue is removed.

  • Pat dry your baby's scalp gently with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing vigorously as this may irritate the skin further.

  • Apply a gentle moisturizer or petroleum jelly to keep the scalp hydrated and prevent further scaling.

  • Repeat this process regularly until the brown scales have completely disappeared.

It's important to note that cradle cap is not caused by poor hygiene or an allergic reaction, so there is no need to worry about cleanliness or changing products unless advised by your pediatrician.

If these home remedies do not improve the condition or if it worsens over time, consult your pediatrician for further evaluation and guidance. They may recommend additional treatments such as medicated shampoos or creams to help resolve the issue more effectively.

Burts bees baby oil /coconut oil works well. After bathing your baby apply a couple of drops on your palms and massage the oil on to the wet hair and scalp. Then comb it.
